Grant Writing for Public Health is a 2-part self-paced series designed to introduce public health professionals to grant writing.

Introduction to Public Health Grants — This course introduces the basics of public health grants, including where to locate funding opportunities and how to interpret and respond to Requests for Proposals (RFP). Grants play a critical role in supporting programs and initiatives that improve community health. For many public health agencies and organizations, grant funding makes it possible to launch new initiatives, expand services, and address pressing local health needs. Understanding how grants work and how to find and apply for them is an essential skill for public health professionals.

Writing Effective Public Health Grant Proposals — Successful grant proposals clearly describe community needs, align program or project activities with funder priorities, and present a realistic plan for implementation and evaluation. Strong proposals also demonstrate an organization’s capacity to carry out the work and clearly communicate how the proposed program or project will make a meaningful impact on community health. This course teaches learners how to develop competitive public health grant proposals by writing strong needs statements, designing clear program plans, demonstrating organizational capacity, and using AI tools responsibly to support the grant writing process.
